Utrecht – This week the final one in a series of thirteen brand‑new Mercedes‑Benz Actros L ProCabin (2025) motor trucks rolled off the yard of logistics provider Van der Wal. In January two electric ProCabins of the same model will follow.
According to owner Henk van der Wal, the expansion fits perfectly with the family‑owned company’s philosophy, now 100 years old: “We strive for a world where even our grandchildren can still live normally. We do that by deploying our Kill Empty Running‑programme (editor’s note: more efficient transport) and at the same time investing in smart interim steps towards zero‑emission. These ProCabin motor trucks fit nicely into that, because they combine efficiency, comfort and appearance.”

Technology, comfort and character
The latest Actros L ProCabin is Mercedes‑Benz Trucks’ showpiece. With improved aerodynamics, 3 % lower fuel consumption and a luxury cabin, the model lifts driving comfort to a higher level. The dashboard is fully digital and the safety systems are enhanced with new versions of Active Brake Assist 6, Predictive Powertrain Control and Active Sideguard Assist 2. And not to be missed: the new front end. This not only reduces air resistance, but also adds character.
That appearance has been the subject of much discussion — it is known that the design was, to put it mildly, “a bit of a change” for many. Van der Wal responded accordingly:
“With the disappearance of the grille, a blank canvas emerged,” said Henk van der Wal. “So we looked at how we could give this series a recognisable look. Judging by the reactions of drivers and customers, we’ve done quite well.”
“To be honest…”
Driver Niels de Pee (10 years at Van der Wal), who has long been driving exceptional transports to France, says about his first trip with the new truck:
“To be honest, I first thought: what a washing machine… this doesn’t look good. But once I was in it I was sold. The comfort is top, it’s beautifully quiet – except when accelerating, then this deep, raw sound comes out. Gorgeous! I also call it ‘the beast’.”
Investing in the future
The arrival of 20 trucks and the two electric variants is part of a continuous renewal of the fleet. The company indicates that it will again replace 20 trucks (model‑year 2019) with this new model next year. The namesake of the logistics provider explains the approach:
“We want our traction equipment to meet the latest standards as much as possible.” He continues: “We need to do now what can be done now, so that we benefit from cleaner and more efficient engines, combined with systems that provide additional safety and convenience. Also important: this allows us to offer the drivers a workplace with a lot of comfort!”
