Van der Wal was founded as a taxi company by Toon Van der Wal in 1924. The story goes that Toon was quick to convert his taxi into a lorry because he found he was happier transporting goods instead of people.
Thanks to acquisitions of other companies, including Wesco Trans, Mur Transport B.V. and Middelkoop Roermond, the number of Van der Wal employees has increased and turnover has increased substantially.
In 2008, Van der Wal initiatives in the field of sustainability are rewarded with a Lean and Green Award. Van der Wal received this award together with Rockwool for their unique, cross-industry cooperation in the field of sustainable transport.
In 2010 Van der Wal Transport was the first company that was willing to sign a Compliance with the Transport and Water Management Inspectorate (TWMI). This implies that Van der Wal willingly conforms to the rules and regulations set by TWMI.
